Neutral Safety Switch

Postby pratt » Mon Jun 25, 2018 5:34 pm

Greetings, everyone. I’d be grateful for some assistance. I’m away from my home marina and my port side ignition won’t start the engine. I’m pretty sure it’s the neutral safety switch. This has happened twice over the past year and a little jiggle of the gear shifter would enable it to start right up. Not this time, though. I have a Regal 3780 with Cummins 6BTA diesels. Can a layman like me potentially fix this by bypassing the neutral safety switch? That will at least enable me to get home and find a more proper fix. I’ve searched YouTube videos and most seem to be about hotwiring a car—not sure of applicability to my situation and what risks I’d be taking. Thanks!

Same boat, same problem. I bypassed the switch until I got to change it.

Dangerous to bypass a neutral safety switch. If you have to do it just once to start the engine, then "un" bypass it and get the switch replaced ASAP! Definitely agree with kellyg, hang a red tag on the ignition switch and gear selector indicating neutral safety switch jumped!
