Port Holes Leaking in Salon and Fwd. Head

Postby gofast24 » Sat May 12, 2018 10:21 am

I have 3X glass port holes (roughly 16" square) 2X in the ceiling of the salon and 1X fwd. head. They are leaking when closed especially when washing down the deck or during heavy rain. Any idea what type of gasket is embedded in the aluminum frame (self stick or preferably press into small a small v groove in the aluminum frame). Possibly one of you guys have come across this problem previously? Dont really want to just tear out the old gasketing and use "self stick" tape, just asking for another leak in a few years or so.
Thanks for any advice you old timers might have.

The closing clamps on mine are adjustable - I can increase the tension and closing force to compensate for an aging gasket.

Yes, the latchs (called dogs) are adjustable, in my previous 3760 i went to buy gaskets due to the same issue but just adjusting the dogs solved the problem.

Thanks guys! Only thing is that you have much newer vessels, ours is a 2001? Will try the tightening the "dogs" but at last look the rubber gaskets are pretty much dry rotted and semi gone :(
We very seldom open either of the two salon hatches but the fwd. head hatch is opened quite often for obvious reasons. The saving grace for the fwd. head hatch is that any water ingress just runs into the shower floor drain and then out thru the fwd. sump pump:)

Regal uses Bomar, not sure how far back they did. I am sure a picture or two to these guys and they can tell you what parts you might need if it is one of theirs.

My main hatch leaked when I bought the boat as well. I tightened/adjusted the latches and all was good after that. One of my port side oval windows also leaked but simple tightening of the screws solved it. With all the beating these things get stuff works itself loose over time.

My son was at the boat yesterday and said its not the seals/gasket around the frame but the glass or Acrylic pane comes loose from the frame it is attached to when you try to open it? Guess it might just need some clear RTV to re bed it into the frame? I have to go myself and take a few pictures as Chris mentioned.

Thanks
