Bahamas

Postby pnyxxpress » Tue Mar 14, 2017 2:36 pm

Ok.. There are a lot of older threads out here for trips planned and taken to the Bahamas. Are there sitll groups that do this trip on an annual basis? I'm interested in planning a trip for 2018 and would like to go with an experienced group. Thanks!

Sundance Marine (Regal Dealer in SF) organize planned trips to Bimini and West Bahamas. Its pretty well organized; i went with them in 2013 (Bimini) and in 2016 (West Bahamas).

I have been obsessed with this idea for the last couple weeks. My problem is that I live in central Pennsylvania so I'd either have to tow my boat all the way to Miami or, ideally, fly down and rent something. Let me know if you find a group for 2018, I'll be interested as well.

It is only about 55 miles from Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini. I have been keeping this trip at the forefront of things I would like to do. My biggest issue is whether I would return...I might just keep heading south

I contacted Sundance Marine by phone. The organizer is supposed to get in contact with me. I'll pass along all the details once I get them.

I found a youtube video from last year. I seen your boat in the video.. It looks like last year there were 25 boats and 80 people. Does that sound about correct?

Yes, thats correct; the video was from the West Bahamas trip but there are other videos of the Bimini trips done in previous years. Next month Sundance is organizing a trip to Hawkes Cay (around middle way to Key West). Once you get into their mailing list they send you well in advance the registration info.
In 2016 Bimini was done in June or May and West Bahama in early August.

Do you by chance have any contact information. I have called Sundance Marine three times and left a message with the main office. It sounds like they are not the ones that actually coordinate these trips. It's another person outside of Sundance Marine and Sundance is unwilling to provide me that person's contact info. I'm not even sure my messages are getting to the correct person. Thanks!

Ive received a few days ago the pre registration invitation for this year trip to Old Bahama (first week of August) but last year Sundance did a Bimini trip in July.
Pls post your email or via PM and i will forward you the email. There is a marketing lady (her name is Dottie ) that sets up the trips so she is the one to contact , her email is dottie@drassociates.com .

Anyway if you are up to go sooner we are leaving with another fellow ROF member to Bimini on May 4th. Until May 7th . (If weather permits). He is trailering his 26 Cruiser from Daytona Beach area to Ft Lauderdale because the plan is to leave from Pt. Everglades. Let us know if you are interested in joining us.

We were not able to make the trip this year. I'm kind of glad we didn't. The new boat was problematic. Looking forward to next year. Did any go this year? Share some photos and experiences.

A bahama's trip in my 28 express is on my bucket list.

I'd love to go with you pnyexpress! We are in San Francisco and that's quite a tow!! I'd likely just pay someone to tow it back and forth for me.

Coming across on the Regal forum Voyages via water from South Fl to Bahamas trip , A organized trip . I had too join in .

Son was saying too me Dad lets plan a father & son trip someplace different for your birthday . Just turned 70 and he is 45 , Possibly Bahamas or flying too someplace fishing . We are not serious fisherman just enjoy hanging together on boat ,
.
I have a 2004 Regal Commodore 2860 with two new long block Volvo penta 4.3 . I have about 5 hours on them since installed few weeks ago
I keep Regal at a marina in Cape Canaveral .
I have a 3 axle trailer for Regal and can drop any were.
Last season travel by water from Cape Canaveral too Ft Pierce ,
Stayed at a very nice marina ,, Harbor Town in Ft Pierce . Talking with fellow boaters at dock they said many live Orlando , closest drive too ocean is port Cape Canaveral but many moved boats from Cape Canaveral too Ft Pierce.
Longer car ride but fishing is better, closer too gulf stream, cleaner waters, Bahamas close

Wife & I are retired and we spend a lot time aboard We also discussed a Bahamas trip but the voyage should be with others is safer, fun
I am interested in details , cost , departure . What is required, passport , do you have too file a itinerary with Government when leaving & returning USA

Looking forward too responses

thanks

I couldnt go to Bimini this year, becuase i couldnt find a weather window to cross.
I attempted to cross back in May but we had to go back because the ocean was too choppy for the other two boats of our party (We were 3 boats).
I hope 2018 brings better weather than 2017.

The closest port to go to Bimini is Miami so if you are trailering the best bet is to leave from Crandon Park Marina in Key Biscaine.
You have to fill a float plan and check in a cuatoms office upon return. (There is a program called Local Boater Option thats intended for people that go often but for just one trip im unsure if its worth going through the process).
Bahamas charges 150 dollars for getting into the country in a boat up to 35 ft.
This page has good info: https://biggameclubbimini.com/marina/cu ... migration/

There are several places to stay with marina so its a matter of budget and preference.

There is a thread in the Truth Hull forum devoted to Bimini crossings that has a lot of info (be prepared to read because its pretty long).

I hope you could make the trip because its a nice experience!
