2001 Westerbeke 7.0 kW gen Set Service/Repair $

Postby gofast24 » Sun Sep 23, 2018 11:02 am

Just had a service guy check the low output (10 VAC) problem on my 2001 7.0 BCGB set. Should have known better to do it myself but called a supposed Westerbeke service guy and he charged $686 to replace 2X 16 MFD voltage regulation caps (of which one was still good as I took them home and checked with a cap function multi meter) . I could have purchased these 2X 16 MFD /500 VAC caps for $16 each . Guess we are never to old to learn from years of old or new experience :(

Westerfreak....ugh.

After all the genset headaches I've had with finally getting my genset to work in lake Tahoe, it started acting up again yesterday....back to the drawing board.

Thanks for the comment!

Assume you have a Westerbeke set? What size, model, output? What is it doing to "act up"? I am getting a lot of expensive experience with out set but when it is running (1800 RPM) it runs like sewing machine, no sound covers and holds frequency and AC output well!

You've got some replies in my thread! Thank you!

Now, it is dying after a few seconds and the low rpm light is on. Duh...

Our set running great last week after paying $686 for two capacitors, except when my son took the boat out yesterday AM he called me and said gen not producing any AC output voltage:(
I told him to go into the engine room and see if the 60 amp gen set breaker had tripped or not? He checked and said the breaker was in the off position! The service guy left the main set breaker in the off position when he left the boat, really great, maybe looking for another service call for gen not producing AC output??
