3560 aft bilge access?

Postby Underwater254 » Sat Mar 24, 2018 8:01 am

Has anyone replaced their bilge pump or float? Mine is located behind the generator and impossible to get to without removing a bunch of stuff. Might be easier to add one. Any thoughts?

On my boat (I have I/Os), there are two aft bilge pumps, one just forward of the area you step on when in the engine "room", center of the boat, but almost accessible for service and replacement. I haven't replaced it, but it is reachable there. I'm not sure if you need to remove the water tank and flooring to get at it completely, but I think it's possible taking your time and reaching through under that partition. I don't know if the flooring under the water tank is designed to be removed or not.

The generator is off to the starboard side, the pumps are in the center sections.

The forward most bilge pump in the center of this picture, just to the left of the generator but in front of the partition under the water tank:

The other is just against the stern, under the steps rearward of the area you step on when in the engine "room". To access this, remove the steps, they lift out quite easily for simple access to this area.

I haven't had to replace either of these but I do remove the pumps from the strainer every so often to check for hair or other trash. Two 'push clips' and the top of the pump pops right off of the bottom strainer portion.

If you have women when long hair on the boat, it tends to get everywhere and end up here.

I would think both of these areas are easy enough to service.

Rich,
Is the gen set in the white box on the right side of the picture? What brand and model is it? It looks like it is totally enclosed? How is the noise when running? Assume it is a 3600 RPM 2 pole 60 HZ set.

Thanks

Yes, the big white box is the generator.

It's a Kohler 7.3K I believe. It's not too noisy, but I don't have much to compare it to.

The white box is the extra sound shield, it keeps the noise down considerably.

I guess I should have added, to access the bilge pump that is under the water tank, remove the steps, and bring a section of some plywood or heavy cardboard to cover the area just next to the generator behind that partition that is in the way, this would allow you to lay down and get your hands into the area with the bilge pump.

I wish it was that easy. I have the inboards with the generator aft of motors in middle. I need a 4ft. arm :(
