3260 vinyl windows

Postby Ryan903w » Wed Nov 01, 2017 11:10 am

I'm hoping someone can assist me. Does anyone know what gauge vinyl is used in the factory window panels on a 2004 3260 and also is it stratalass or a different brand?

Sounds like a question for Regal to answer, or the OEM mfgr. of the top.

It might be hard to pin that down for a 2004, as the isinglass has likely been changed out at some point. I know on my 2005, I replaced the isinglass in 2013 for example. That said, my 2014 Regal was built with 30 gauge isinglass. I don't think it is the coated Strataglass, but a little hard to tell. I have since upgraded my front panels to polycarbonate (TaylorMade calls it Makrolon), which is the OEM hard plastic panels for Regal now. This is one of the best decisions I have made on the boat. It is easier to see through than my windshield, and cleans up very easily. The challenge with it is it does not roll, so you have to have a secure storage spot for it.

I called regal customer service and they were unsure of the material but verified that ameritex manufactured the original canvas. The rep at regal said that ameritex most likely won't provide me with the details on the materials used and also wouldn't reproduce windows for the boat as they don't go back that far. I am positive it's the original canvas. I just wanted to know the gauge as I am in the process of redoing the windows myself as a winter project. I will most likely go with 30 gauge strataglass so I can still roll the center section of the front and rear pieces.

My 2001 3780 came with roll eisenglas 30 mil.
I replaced it with sheet eisenglas 30 mil. I have been averaging 7 years with them.

My front panels are made of Makrolon and I have them for 9 seasons and they still look great.

I am looking into redoing my enclosure as well. A canvas shop should be able to tell you what you have. The place I went to knew exactly what I have and made suggestions on what I should use. If the canvas shop is in the area you boat he will know what works best for your application and may suggest a different material/gauge.

I got a suggestion to not use stratoglass on my previous cruiser because it is very difficult to roll and not ruin. I have heavy material on my Jeep Wrangler, not sure if its stratoglass or something else, but in 2 years it was so scratched up from rolling it, its worthless to see out of. If you can swing up the panels and not have to roll them stratoglass, crystal clear, or the other suggestion Makrolon would be great.
I haven't decided what I want yet. I got sticker shocked so postponing now. :D For the price they want I could buy a nice used car...

I ended up going with 30 gauge strataglass. I compared the original to 40 gauge that I had and decided to go that route. I was able to get new zippers and a sheet of strataglass for roughly $250 online.

Ryan - I replaced our front windows with heavier strataglass 7 years ago, not sure of the gauge, I'd have to go through my invoices.
I liked the heavier gauge as it looked clearer than the lighter gauges.

Found one down side to the heavier gauge. A couple of weeks ago after leaving the dock to haul the boat out for the season, we when for a quick
spin to open it up one final time...

I had the walk through window flipped up top, I usually roll it. With the cold weather in the morning and it flopping around on top for a few minutes
it shattered.

The positive, I was going to add a window shade on the inside canvas glass over the winter or early spring. Now I plan on redoing the entire front
canvas glass to better integrate the shade fabric. If anyone has done this I'm open to ideas.

I had this rear shade made a few years ago, we use it on hot sunny days as it blocks most of the sun rays and still lets some breeze through. I also have
another piece to close off the stern sides. I do have to take the other canvas off first.

So I plan to use the same material mounted inside on the front canvas glass to help block out the afternoon sun. Not sure if I'll use velcro, snaps or
other fastener to hold it in place. Will talk to my local canvas guy and see what he recommends.

Cheers,

Do you have a canvas cover over your dash in that one picture? If so can you post a picture how much it covers? My old upholstery guy was retiring so he sold me a machine and gave me a few lessons so now I'm looking for little projects to do.

Ryan- I had to dig up a photo from 4 years ago of the dash.

Two piece dash cover made from Sunbrella, I only ever take off the helm cover.
What's nice is the Sunbrella keeps the walk way to the bow a lot cooler.
