2005 3860 galley sink issues

Postby Qhasenbein » Thu Oct 04, 2018 9:22 pm

Captains, your help and advice is needed. We’ve got a 2005 Regal 3860 that we’ve owned for 2 seasons. Recently the Sink in the galley has been draining extremely slowly. I’ve tried checking the drain and can’t really see or feel anything that’s clogging it up.. Obviously somethings going on with it and I assume it’s a clog. I also assume that putting harsh drain cleaner chemicals down that drain might be a very very bad idea, soooo I’m open to other ideas if anyone can help. Thank you in advance for the ideas and assistance.
Thx,

I believe the galley sink goes straight out a thru hull on the port side of the boat. Doesn't take much to clog it up; my wife put her soap down it last weekend and that plugged it up good. I just put a wet vac on the sink drain and pulled the soup stuff right out. You could also use the wet vac on the thru hull to clear out the hose. Hope this helps!

All 4 of our sinks (galley, fwd. head, aft head, and bridge deck sink) drain into two sump pumps. Pouring anything greasy down any of them is a no no and messes up the float switches in the sump pumps. My first suggestion would be to pour about a pint of hydrogen peroxide down the problem drain, just let it set and see if you actually have direct drain thru hull connection if anything comes out that thru hull. Do not pour any typical home use drain cleaner down anything on the boat (or bleach as well)!

PS: If you actually have a direct thru hull drain try pouring a quart or so of hot (use a coffee maker with out coffee in it) water down the sink drain, dont do that if your drain goes to a on board sump pump.

Our other sinks, 2 heads and cockpit sink do go to sumps but the galley sink on our 2006 3860 is direct to a thru hull. Agree with the hydrogen-peroxide; I use it every year to kill bacteria.

Thanks for the update! Have to wonder if Regal ever built two boats the same in all their years of manufacturing? I am still sure our 4 sink drains all go to 2X sump pumps ( also, both shower drains and 2X Air Con Condensate drains go to the same 2 sump pumps as well. Lots of stuff draining into 2 sump pumps!

On two prior boats (non Regal), the galley sinks drained overboard via a thru hull. I had issues with spiders making nests just inside of the thru hull fitting. I found that pipe cleaner brushes worked well for clearing them out by the hull side.

Hope this helps...

Yep... I also have a 2006 3860 and my drain setup s just as Jeff states.

I too use some Hydrogen-Peroxide on occasion.

3860 galley sink goes directly out the side in a thru hull. Pour some H2O2 down there. You can also use a small sink plunger to push whatever is clogging it up. The line run is less than three feet and you can get to it from the cabinet under the sink. Should clear easily.

My galley and head sinks both fed to a sump below the cabin stairs in our 2760.

I ended up rerouting them through the side of the hull and blocking off where they connected to the sump box. Now that they both drain right out the side flow is much better. Bypassing the sump also eliminated the possibility of something getting trapped/caught up in the sump pump and flooding that stairwell/floor, or the pump failing over time and causing the same issues.

On our 3260, the galley sink drains directly over board. Within the first year of owning her the sink got plugged. One of the ROF members suggested forcing water back through the thru hull with a garden hose. Clog was fixed in seconds. A few years back I replaced the drain hose with a straighter run and it has plugged again.

Have to wonder what happened to the clog/water when pushing water through the thru hull back up to the sink with the garden/dock water hose? isn't there a small grate in the sinks drain at the sink like most home sinks/shower drains have? I am going to use my endoscope to see what is blocking both our fwd. head sink as well as the fwd. shower drain (both go independently to the fwd. sump pump housing).

Go fast, I disconnected the hose from the basket strainer. Just junk came out.
