Flir Ocean Scout TK

Has anyone seen or used the new FLIR Ocean Scout TK imager yet?

http://www.flir.com/marine/oceanscouttk/

I know it has lower resolution (160 x 120 at 9 Hz) and less features than the the other models, but at $600 it seems very interesting.

My use would be for navigating during night boating on our lake, so I'm wondering how useful it would be.

I haven't found any discounts on it yet, so I may as well get it from West Marine where I can easily return if it is don't like it.

I sure would look at the Seek Thermal XL for your phone, for the cost difference.

Higher resolution. A stand alone unit would be the RevealXR.

When I was looking at IR cameras, I sure couldn't justify the higher cost lower spec FLIR's over the Seek units. Now for the high end stuff, yes FLIR would be nice to have, but affordability is a big thing. I have been very happy with my older Seek Thermal Compact original unit. It has a wider field of view and works great around the house as well as well as around the boat for looking at manifold heating and cooling losses from the HVAC unit. ;)
Thanks, Chris

Chris,

Have you tried this at night on your boat?

I want one to aid night navigation when it's often hard to see objects within striking distance.

Hi Chris, how was your experience with the Seek Thermal?

Looking for a handheld infrared camera. For me, price isn't as important as how well it works... although I would probably go with the $600 dollar TK Ocean scout instead of the more expensive models. Seems to do the job, especially combined with a good radar. Found a site with free shipping on it, and $15 dollar off code: http://citimarinestore.com/citiguide/flir-ocean-scout-tk-240-320-100-handheld-infrared-cameras/

However if the Seek Thermal XL works well, the $200 price tag is quite attractive...

Thanks

Seek now has a 320x240 model (the Reveal Pro version) that is in the $699 price range.

This seems like a lot of performance for the price (1800ft 550M distance)

I would still like to hear how Chris liked his on the boat at night.
