Grill Mount

Postby hvlm » Wed Dec 12, 2007 5:41 pm

Does anyone have idea where I can score a mount for my gas grill. I was looking at photos from the "How to Raft" posting and notices several captains have a table mount affixed to their swim platform. Where can I get that unit or was it engineered in a garage?? Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks

Any good marine store would carry pedestial mounting systems (dependent upon the brand name of your gas grill). You can get flush mounts or mounts that are actually cut into your swimplatform or rocket launchers or rail, etc. West Marine would be a good place to start but really, any local marine store and/or just search the net googling sea grill, magma etc., and then look at the mounting options.

As I mentioned on another post I also have a project for a grill mount on the swim platform. I purchased the pedestal kit from West Marine online, it was a "table pedestal for large boats" made by Garelick (sp?). It came the other day and looks perfect for my project. It has a flush mount base which I will have installed on the swim platform, and a table mount which I will attach a grill to. They fit together very tightly so I'm confident it will hold a grill securely. I'm going to try to attach my current Magma Kettle style grill but since it does not have a flat bottom and the gas connects in the center I'm going to have to get very inventive.

PJS: Is this what you bought? http://www.garelick.com/product.php?pnumber=75350 / I just got done making a jig for my West Marine Grill using two cups from Supersuckers.com. I will let you know how it goes. I mounted the grill to a Magna mount instead of the cheap WM mounts. The Jig is angled to provide a 90 when cooking off the back of the aft compartment. Thanks again!!!

Yes, that is the pedestal set I got. I was thinking of using an aluminum plate mounted on the table base and putting the grill to one side attached by putting the center stem down through a hole in the aluminum plate and attach a tray of some sort to the plate on the other side of the base so that I end up with a mounted grill and working tray next to it. But until I actually try to put the pieces together it's hard to say how it will end up.

PJS, your concept sounds very interesting and doable. I would like to see how it turns out. Please post pictures when you get it done.

I will be sure to post some pics when my project is finished. It will probably be a few months though as I move slowly during the winter.

Check out the RV stores for the mounts. Friends of ours an installation on a cockpit table with the same hardware and it was less the half the price at the RV stoere. This winter, they will be adding the post mount to their swim platform for the grill as you all will be doing.

PJS,
I too have a 2006 3560 and came up with something that works great for me. On the back of your boat, just above the swim platform there is a grab handle on both sides about 7/8" dia. I bought a bolt-on Rod holder (rocket launcher) from west marine and they also sell the grill adapter to fit this to a Magna Party Size Kettel grill. I put this on the port side handle and it works great. We tie-up on that side and there is no problems. I had concerns about mounting anything that I had to cut or drill holes for and, this keeps the grill away from the gas vents and fillers. My 3560 has the euro-sunpad which made my mount location diffucult to keep on the outside of the encloser while it was up. Here in TN we still use the boat in the winter but with the enclosers up.

I've been using a rod holder mount but after seeing (and using) grills mounted on a post in the swim platform I decided I'd rather do it that way. I'll let you know how it works out.

I've pretty much figured out my plan and have most of the pieces I need but it will be a few weeks yet till I get it completed. I think its going to turn out even better than I expected. I'll be sure to post pix when its finished.

My latest project, mounting the grill. We had been placing the grill by the sink in the cockpit which worked ok but it was in the way over long weekends on the boat. I stole the idea from Formula and Chaparral how they mount theirs to the stern of the boat.

I had a bracket made (by the folks who make Carl's JR and Burger King flame broilers) to hang off the rear railing. It fits below the camper canvas if it's in place as well. I think I posted pictures with measurements before.
