Ordered a new 2017 1900ES- Trading Yamaha FSH

Postby 2ndregal » Fri May 05, 2017 5:26 pm

Hi guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself and give a quick back story.

My wife and I bought a 03 Regal 1800GX back in 2005 and kept it until our Son was born in 2010.

We loved it and with a little light tweaking ran 60-61 mph. It would ride better, much faster and use less gas than my friends 21' Baja with a 5.7L V8

We put almost 200 hours on it with nothing other than basic maintenance.

Fast forward to this year, We now have 2 kids. I didn't think we could afford a new Regal so after a little shopping bought a 2017 Yamaha FSH as I figured it would be low maintenance .

Well, first time out, not only did it not have the punch or any kind of giddy up, but the kids did not look safe in the boat and it rode like a Honda Civic with no shocks.
I should have done a sea trial but I was so excited to get back on the water and I jumped too quick.
In 2-3 chop it couldn't hardly get on plain with 2 adults and 2 kids aboard ( 3 and 7 years)

After 5.4 hours of disappointing boating I was at my local Regal dealer ( Quality boats in Clearwater)

We decided to custom order a 1900ES , with the 240HP ( So I don't have to tinker with it ) Newport blue, white bottom, and the ESX custom interior and trade the Yamaha.

The sad part it wont be ready till the end of July, The good part is we'll be back in another REGAL

Thanks. We just got back from a sea Trail in the 1900ES with the 200HP, and it rode so nice. It also has so much punch and jumped on plain very quick. With 3 adults we ran upto 50mph a couple of time very easy.

I can't wait to feel what the 240HP model does :) :) :)

The Sea trail was in a boat the didn't have the best color scheme.

It was white and Mocha , dark blue boot stripe, Bimini top, Dark brown around the gauges , random black trim. I think it was made with left over material...lol

The Yamaha is traded and sitting on their lot for sale. Only 5 hours if you looking for a fishing center console

A good place for that Yamaha to be, you will be very happy with the 1900.
So many improvements have been made with the 2017 1900, the quality of this boat versus the Yamaha are worlds apart.
The Yamaha to me is a light weight boat with inferior fit and finish.

A quick update...

I changed my Order to the 2000es. The more I looked at the boats side by side, the 2000 as a cleaner look. The back of the 1900 looked very much
the same as our 1800LSR from a few years ago.

Plus the bow area and more storage was a plus too.

We're keeping the same scheme, White with Newport blue, ESX interior and 240HP motor.

I will post up pictures and most likely a review once we get it. Regal are saying the end of July.

I went the opposite route as you did - I traded my '14 Regal 1900ES for a '17 Yamaha 212X a month ago and couldn't be happier. In terms of initial quality, I highly disagree that the Regal is superior to the Yamaha, as I had lots of issues with my 1900 from the time it was new and it spent many weeks sitting at the dealer waiting on repairs. So far, there's no issues requiring me to take the Yamaha back to the dealer, keeping my fingers crossed.

I've already started customizing it by installing a Cobra steering system to improve low speed and reverse maneuverability. So far, I've been impressed by the improvement that the Cobra system adds. I've also bought a bunch of SeaDec matts to add to other deck areas. These match the factory matts and really make the boat stand out.

What's key when buying anything is to NOT buy the 1st model year. I believe your Yamaha FSH was in that bucket, which is why you had a negative experience. It took 3 years to get all my initial quality issues cleared up with my Regal 1900, but I really did enjoy the boat. Now that we have the new 212X, we're extremely happy we made the switch. We have a lot more room and especially storage areas so we no longer have all our junk sitting in the floor of the boat.

Hopefully you'll have a better experience with your Regal. They are great boats.

That's interesting.

The Yamaha did have great design, it looked great and had very cleaver storage.

It just rode very rough and was extremely under powered with 3 adults and two kids. I had a hard time getting on plane.

It had a 180hp Jet drive. I think your boat is longer and has a bigger engine.

The FSH may be a better choice for 1 or 2 adults on the lake or in the bay on a calm day.

Good luck, I hope your boat is fun and reliable
