Nice towing machine! Does your truck have a suspension lift or air suspension system?

EpicWakeJump, You asked me for this info a couple months ago. My gross is 19740, full tanks and a weekend worth of supplies. Tongue weight is 500.

Is that 19,740 for your truck, boat and trailer?

I don't think your trailer+boat gross would be that!

Hmmm, 500# sounds a bit light. How does it tow for you?

19740 includes the truck. 10320 is the boat and trailer. I was also surprised to see only 500 on the tongue but it tows like a dream. I have about a 15 mile section of curvy. hilly, wobbly two lane and I have no issues.

Remember that a boat is a bit different in that unlike the traditional 10% tongue weight on a camper, you shoot for the 5% to 7% range.

Remember that if the CGWR ratings between the truck and trailer added together are over 26K (with the F450 thats very easy to do) you do need a non-commerical DL in many states. That's the max GVWR ratings of both the trailer and truck combined not the actual weights of the two.

Here is the break down by state: http://changingears.com/rv-sec-state-rv-license.shtml

Its for RV's but handy spot to look, you really need to check with your state to be sure. If you don't have the correct DL you basically are driving without a licenses and in many states that can void insurance out as well if something bad happens. Better safe than sorry. I know many people don't realize this or understand that but you can't claim ignorance if something bad happens. Same holds true for transiting through states as well on a trip. Then there are the oversize permits as well.

Even with my easy todo f-450, I’m well below 26k #’s.

Where I might be a tad over is the trailer + boat weight in Ca. Pnyexpress says he’s at 10320, which in Ca would put me over on the trailer limit.

There is no safer towing machine than my F-450 though, and that’s what is paramount to me.

Yep no issues with the F450, its just the need for a non-CDL class A or not. If you are in CA then anything over 10K GVWR, not actual weight would require a class A license. I would assume that the GVWR on the trailer is 12-18K? I hope its not 10K, as that would be light. ;)
