Pulling my 2001 Regal 2660 twin 4.3L with no issues with my 2009 F150 5.4L. I do have the factory towing package. The only thing I have done is replaced the factory air cleaner part # 9F765 with a new AL3Z - 9F721-A and removed the baffle. I unhooked the battery for 10 minutes and re-hooked it up and ran through computer diagnostic check. This was a quick $7.00 fix for the Chicago construction traffic. Down side is a little air intake noise when I step on it.

Hey, Me2660
Does your truck have the 3.55 axle or the 3.73? I'm looking at a 2009 F150 with Tow pkg and all I can find is the 3.55 axles. I wanted the 3.73 but everyone says I need to find a FX4 truck. How does your truck do with your boat? I think we will be pulling about the same weight 8K lbs. Do you pull very far or up any big hills?

Thanks

Cool thread :) I tow with a Silverado, recently picked up a new 2015 High Country - 3.42 rear axle and the 5.3l V8 good for towing 9,000lbs according to Chevy. My first 4x4 and first truck with leather, went for the decked out version after not spending much on cars the last 10+ years, decided to treat myself for a few years to a nice ride :)

A couple months ago we got a 2014 Ram Outdoorsman with the 5.7L Hemi and 3.92 rear end. It has air suspension and all the goodies. It is by far the best truck I have owned and tows the 1900 wonderfully.

My 2009 F150 has 3.31 Ratio Regular Axle. I pull from 20 miles to 100 miles normally, no problems. I do a lot of expressway driving at 60 - 65 MPH and run about 1800 - 2000 on the tach based on head wind and average 9 - 10 miles per gallon. When we go to the Illinois River there is was step grade we clime for about 1 mile. It pulls fine and handles great but because I changed air filters you heir the air intake up the hill.
I have surge brakes so I don't use load levers, I adjusted the front V notch boat stop to adjust my tongue weight to about 500 to 600 pounds. The truck and boat sits very level.

Me2660,

Well your truck does very well having 3.31 gearing pulling that much weight. I've been doing a lot of research on trucks and I guess the 2009 up trucks with the 6 spd auto really pulls better than the older trucks. The 6 spd has a lower 1st and 2nd gear to get things rolling easier. I'm definitional on the hunt for a 2009 newer F-150. We're wanting to pull our boat up to Chicago for the air show this year if we have time. We want to cruise the Canal through the city and get some pics.

Thanks for the reply.

The Chicago river is great, so is the play pin!! I only wish there was more food options on the lake. I always but in at Burnham Harbor, never any issues. Today is the first day to book day/night slip & buoy rental for 2015 season. I would suggest Burnham Harbor for overnight parking for truck and trailer (1-312-808-3161).
I was looking at the new F150, my concern is the weight of the truck, especially backing down very steep slimy ramps. Burnham Harbor is average to a little on the steep side.

Just curious. How much over are you on the rated tow capacity and GCVWR. I have a 2013 F150 ecoboost with a tow package and 3.53. I plan on towing a Regal 28 Express. Best guess I'll be about 2-3000 over the combined weight rating when fully loaded for the a weekend. Your combo makes me feel a bit more comfortable about my plans. Thanks

A 28 Express is well into the 3/4 ton category. Loaded up on a trailer the boat will be well over 10,000lbs, probably close to or over 11,000lbs. The size and length also come into play, as a windy day will be a lot harder to control with a 1/2 ton.

With a few people in the truck you will not only be over the tow rating of the truck but the CGVWR as well as the GVWR of the truck

2012 Avalanche with our 2002 2400. Great combo though some of those Missouri Ozark hills give it a run for the money!

You guys tow with your bow and cockpit covers on? Every have any issues? How far and fast do you tow? We typically tow with just out bow cover on to help reduce the carpet beating (we lost some snaps in the past), was always afraid to tow with the cockpit cover. Maybe I should reconsider. Thanks for any input.
