Daddy, tell me a about Regal high-mount trailering lights.

Postby FPCycle » Sat May 09, 2009 6:17 pm

I'm currently awaiting delivery of my repo 2006 Regal 2000. It is arriving on a Shoreland'r tandem Aluminum trailer of the same year.

I was curious how the trailer lights on the boat are connected to the trailer. I know about the round jack in in the bow of the boat. But what plugs in, and how is it connected to the trailer? Is there a "male-female" tap that plugs in between the vehicle plug and trailer harness, or is the trailer wiring specially modified to add the lights?

Are there any pictures anywhere on the web of how the trailer is set up?

My repo boat is missing the lights in the rear. Not sure why. Maybe the owner wanted to put them on his next boat?

If I want to refit lights, are they a standard item, or are they custom-made for Regal? Anyone know where I could pick up an extra set?

Thanks for the Edumacation!

Dave, we have a 2007 Regal 2000. The next time we are out at the boat, I can try to take some pictures of the wiring harness. We also have a Shoreland'r tandem trailer. Possibly the same model. The plug for the boat lights is somehow tapped into the trailer wire harness.

Enjoy your boat, we love ours!

Thanks. If you ever see any goodies for the 2000 while out and about, please let me know. My boat came "stripped" of anything not bolted down, and some that were:
• Snap-in Carpet
• Bow cover (red)
• Cockpit cover (red)
• Stereo faceplate
• Cooler
• Brake/tail lights on boat
• Bimini wrap (red)
• Trailer harness for boat lights?
• Mooring/storage cover
• Camper-canvas
• Table.

If you see any of these for sale at good prices at a dealer or anything, give me a shout!

I found a photo of the hookup for the lights on the old boat.
The other end of the wire is Tee'd into the trailer lights, if I remember correctly...

Thanks. I got the boat, and the trailer and boat both have the connectors. Now I just need to find a set of lights. Anyone know the approximate cost of a pair of the lights that mount on the boat?

I have tried to hook up the trailer lights without success.
Are the lights on a new boat already set up, is there a switch to be activated? the yellow green and black wires resprsent?

This information would be great

Have any Regal dealer order them for you. They will cost you about $16.00 each plus a little freight. Part # from Regal is 6536

Sorry to drag up a 4 yr old post, but I'm having trouble getting info on the connection for the high-mount trailer lights. I have recently obtained a1800LSR that has the bow connection to the Shoreland'r trailer. A previous poster indicated that there is a cable coming off the trailer that plugs into the bow, but my trailer does not seem to have this. My questions are:

1/ how does the cable connect into the wiring of the trailer? Is there a plastic t-connection, or is it hard spliced into the wires?
2/ the bow 4 pin female connection is not the standard configuration for a 4-pin round. The four pins are not positioned in a square pattern, but instead more of a trapezoid pattern (I hope this make sense). Has anyone found a male 4-pin round connector that would fit into the bow?

I can certainly do my own splicing into the trailer wiring and create the yellow/green/black connecting cable, it's just that I'm stumped on the part that plugs into the bow connector. Any suggestions? Any pics that can be provided that shows how the cable is spliced or connected into the trailer wiring would be greatly appreciated.

Great forum, by the way. I'm glad I discovered this as a new Regal owner. Thanks again.

On the 2400 the cable tapped into the trailer wiring and comes up the winch post and out from under the rubber cap for it.
Regal has the lights on their boats, but I have never seen it on any other brand of boat, so if the trailer did not come with the boat from a regal dealer, you will have to tap (use posi-locks) the wiring yourself.
I replaced the broken plastic original connector with a pepboys connector. I have pictures of the install if you need to see how I did it.
Good luck.....I connected a switch to light them when using the boat at anchor (lights up the swim platform at night).

Any chance at all of getting those pics posted of your install please?

Greg

I am still looking for the pictures. They are buried on the PC...somewhere.
I bought a round trailer light connector kit from PEP Boys and unscrewed the mounted end from the bow ladder locker , replaced it with the PEP Boys (there was plenty of slack in the boat wiring to work with) .
Did the same with the end coming from the Trailer plug.
The important thing is that the wire colors match (the plug and connector are connecting the same colors). Ex if you use pin 1 for the yellow wire on the plug, then you must use pin 1 for the yellow wire on the connector.
I will post the pictures ....as soon as I find them.

The wiring diagram should be in the back of your owners manual.I have never seen a harness from Regal. I have replaced the boat and harness connectors. It is designed to operate the brake and turn signal lights only. On my 1800, there are 4 wires to the bow. They are spliced parallel into the trailer wire harness. White is ground & in the boat goes to black. Terminal 1. Brown is tail lights and is NOT used. Yellow is LH turn & brake, goes to terminal 3 and is yellow/black in the boat. Green is green and uses terminal 2. That's RH turn & brake.
