Regal 4060 COMMODORE 2008 New to me

Postby Threebuoys » Mon May 07, 2018 5:10 pm

Ready for your advice. Haven’t been on the site much cause my baby’s been running smoothly for quite a while. Currently own a Regal 3060 - 2005 and looking to move up to a 08 4060. Fresh water only. Three owners. Would appreciate any comments and suggestions on what to look out for. It’s powered with Volvo 8.1’s. gas. 475 hours. Been driven on the same lake up northern Canada the entire time. Let me know what other info you need.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Chris

Hey Chris
V drives with 473 hours on them. I know they are thirsty but I plan to drive mostly at hull speeds 8 or 9 knots - Admirals request.
Has bow thrusters but they are the push button kind and I think I would prefer the toggle style. Assume those could be switched out?
Raymarine E80 chartplotter without the radar unit which is odd for a boat this size. So I would need to purchase a dome.
Here is the link to the listing

Would appreciate any comments you would have thanks Chris.

It looks nice. Yes the electronics are the default from that time. If I were you I would look at at least upgrading to a newer series plotter as well, the E80 while it still works, is light years behind any modern unit with WIFI and remote viewing ability etc. A Garmin 7xxx or 8xxx series with the 24" dome or 4' array in the xHD would be a much better choice. Even a newer Raymarine system.

The one advice I would say is with that many hours have they changed the exhaust manifolds since new? I would for sure get two surveys done, one the full boat survey for purchase and then the engine survey. Normally two differnet people will do that and they will cover different things. The overall survey will do some basic engine things, but the engine survey will be much more indepth with almost 500 hours on the engines it would be worth it.
Thanks, Chris

My plan was to have two surveys. One by marine surveyor and one by my volvo mechanic. I’ve always been under the impression that manifolds last much longer in fresh waterl but ill be sure to check that out.
Thanks Chris.

They do last quite a while, but again I assume that they are the original ones, and 10 years is getting up there for cast iron manifolds as well. An IR camera will see the hotspots in them if they are there.
Thanks, Chris

I have the same boat but with IPS. It is a great boat. Runs well in seas w/o any pounding (although at 8knots you may not find that out).
The C-shaped seating is convenient. Keeps everybody up by the captain and has plenty of room. The cockpit sit fairly high and gets a good breeze.
Generator is good size and ACs cool all three cabins well. Storage is pretty good especially behind the salon TV. I changed that out for a 24in flatscreen that fit well.
My biggest pet peeve is a small one. The overhead cabinets in the salon are held open with these tension springs that have to be manually released. If someone forces the cabinet closed they will bend and then will never hold the cabinet open again and will have to be replaced.
Agree with the engine survey and the 8.1s will be thirsty but since it's a freshwater boat should be in good shape. Make sure the Vacuflush system is in good order as the tend to leak with age.
Very happy with my boat. It looks great and always gets lots of compliments at raftups.
Good luck with your purchase.
