3360 - how to remove E80?

Postby Tango59 » Fri Sep 01, 2017 8:24 pm

I've no doubt there are folks here who have (gladly) removed the standard issue E80 at some point... I need to do the same!

If you've done that job previously -- would you please pass along 'how' you got access to the mounting screws holding the unit in the flush mount on the front dash?

I understand Regal of course mounted all that equipment into the panel -- ~before~ the panel was installed in the boat! Any tips or pointers anyone can pass along about how to get the darn thing out at this point... -- would be very much appreciated!

Thank you.

On the C80 that was in my 2007 3060 they simply used front mount SS wood screws under the bezel. You can just snap off the bezel and access the screws. Then it will pull right out, they typically don't mount them from the rear. Heck even on my 35SC they used a custom metal bracket on the unit to bring the screws to the front so they can just screw it down. The other thing that helps is taking the dash panel (gauges) out as well. There should be enough slack in the lines (maybe not the speedo tube) to set it on top of the dash. This opens things up so you can get to all the wiring back there. The 3060 and 3360 and 35SC all used the same dash until they started mounting the chart plotter in the center of the helm, once they (Garmin) discontinued the 5208's and they had to move to larger units. ;)
Thanks, Chris

Hey Chris, Thanks for the great info! I studied the Raymarine installation guide and saw that they spec'd machine screws with washers and nuts.... so I was concerned about that... but you saying they (Regal) used SS wood screws... makes things a whole lot easier. Thanks again, I'll post again when I get it out, another data point for everyone.

Hey Rich, I doubt you would want it -- it worked ok, then tried to do the Raymarine SW update -- and that pretty much caused the unit to lose its mind!

Push the power on button -- hear the electronic 'click' sound as usual.... but then either get (a) no response or (b) a blank white screen or (c) a blank black screen or (d) maybe it actually starts up like normal! Access certain menu options when the unit is on -- and it freezes and eventually shuts off. Not exactly 'high reliability' for being out on the water.

Electronic tech's opinion was that there's some kind of HW component that's failed, or partially fritzed... like the processor or a cap or an IC or ~who knows. And with Raymarine no longer offering repairs on units over 10 years old.... this situation seems pretty much 'out of runway'....

Ok, thanks for the update and good luck!

If you were close by, I'd offer to pick it up and play with it. I have a C80, and Regal no longer offers replacement dashboard parts, so if I wanted to get a new replacement chart plotter, I'd have to fabricate a new dashboard and cut it out to fix a newer GPS chart plotter. An E80 would drop right into the position of my C80, and would be a bit newer than I have now.

It's too bad that Regal no longer will even try to supply parts for boats over 10 years old. Every time I go to my dealer, they just shake their heads and say "I hope you're not looking for any Regal parts today!". After market or 3rd party parts can be found, but nothing that was manufactured for or by Regal is available. It's sad, other boat brands don't have this problem.

Hi Rich.

Unfortunately, it is many other boat Mfgs as well.

I believe it's a law that automobile Mfgs have to maintain replacement parts fro something like 10 years. I wish the same applied to boat builders.

But it does seem extremely difficult to get my hands on any Regal specific parts. They outsource from some weird suppliers.

Example.. try to buy "O-Rings" for the fuel fills. IMPOSSIBLE to get from Regal or their dealers.
