Commodore 2660 and 2765 owners

Postby hafnutz67 » Thu Oct 05, 2017 11:13 am

We are looking to upgrade to a larger, trailerable boat. One of the models that we have been looking at is the Commodore 2660/2765 due to it's size as well as the availability of the twin engines (uncommon for boats with an 8'-6" beam). The reason we like the idea of the twins is that nearly all of our boating is on Lake Michigan, and although 2 engines doubles the maintenance, repairs, etc., it also gives a peace of mind when out on a large body of water such as LM.
I would love to hear some feedback from 2660/2765 owners, both good and bad. What do you like, what do you not like, how is the performance/maintenance with the twin 4.3's, etc.
Thanks in advance for your input.

We are a family of 4 with a Dog, Love our 2001 2660 twin merc 4.3L. It is easy for me to tow, great on lake Michigan and the Illinois River. The twin is great for maneuverability of the boat. I could not imagine having a boat this size without twins or bow thruster.
I have had to use the twins one time, my son was coming down from the bow and slipped, he broke the key off for the port engine. Got back safe and sound with one engine.

Love my '00 2660! Only drawback on maintenance is access to oil filters, two of 10 spark plugs, and one of ten drain plugs. Overcomable, but iratating.
The height can make the boat lean quite a bit in windy conditions, but, with the Bennett ATC (Auto Trim Control) it is a non-issue.
The FasTrac hull is terrific, but needs getting used to, especially in hard turns. It's stable, but the stern 'slides'.
