We had a Little Incident at the Marina

Postby Lost Weekend » Thu Oct 08, 2009 5:17 pm

Haul Out is in full swing at our Marina, signifying the fast approaching end of the boating season of 2009 in our part of the woods. I'm negotiating to keep my boat in the water until the last week of October.

Unfortunately, we had an incident at our Marina - a fire. It pretty well destroyed two boats and the Travel Lift. Thankfully no one was hurt. It could have been much worse as the fire/explosion occured adjacent to the Gas Dock.

See the attached links for video.

Holy smokes!!!! :) Glad to hear no one was hurt. What started the fire?

My boat is still in the water, we'll be out this weekend for the last time probably then it will come out either next week or the week after, whenever I get it arranged.

Not sure what started the fire, but I'll get the scoop when I go up to the Marina tomorrow night.

We were at the marina when it started
Crates was selling a repo boat they bought
The guy was coming to take it for a drive
They started up the boat and it backfired and the rest is on video
The smoke was very toxic and people were so close trying to get a look
We stayed quite a ways back
They rented a crane that came Tuesday and
Wednesday but it was so windy Wednesday they could not use
I was not there yesterday but will pop by today
Our boat is still floating we are still holding out that we may get a couple more nice days

Great to hear nobody was hurt...

My wife and I are still in the water too in Lake St Clair. We aren't scheduled to be pulled until 22 Oct. It has just been terrible weather for the past couple weeks plus! And the forecast isn't looking any better!?! My brother-in-law took his Tiara out late Sep and I thought he was crazy... It looks like he was the smart one!

Maybe the "weather guessers" can be wrong for a change!

Here's a pic of the just-in-time rental replacement for the TraveLift destroyed in the fire, so we could get our boats out of the water my the end of October.

It was touch and go a number of times up there when the wind began to blow ;)
