What's the craziest MOD you've done to your boat? Post a picture.....

Some may call me crazy - especially the ladies.

When I rebuilt my 322 I left out the hot water service & the generator from the engine bay on purpose.

Now I can get down along side the engines and also in behind them to work on them.
Another benefit is - now I can also keep an eye on the rudder gland.
Something that was virtually impossible before.

You can see me working on the engines hidden in the back ground.
That's where the generator was.
I'm not too sure how you were suppose to work on the generator either, tucked back in there.

We now run a portable generator on the transom & plan to get an instant hot water service if we decide we need one.

Another mod I did on the rebuild was have the engine builder put new heads on the engines that raised the HP from 310HP to 400HP each.
400 HP is not really " crazy" but a bit of an improvement for the old girl.

Nice! How did a generator ever fit back in that hole anyway?

Had to be installed before the engines went in I guess.
Not a lot of room anywhere in the 322 engine bay.
To be honest it is a major pain to work anywhere back there.
I just realigned both engines to the V-drives this week and it was a nightmare job even with the extra access.
I'm not sure how you would do the job without access behind the engines.

I'm curious about the cylinder heads. Do the ports match the stock intake manifold? Do you have part numbers?

Sorry, I can't really help you too much with the details.
I know the stock heads can be modified with bigger valves to get your engine breathing better = more HP.
So I would have to say - yes they suit the standard manifold / exhaust setup.

Modifying my original heads was an option, but they had too much damage and it would not have been worth the effort.
So I just went with new heads and the engine builder modified them and fit larger valves - I don' t have any part numbers or valve details.

I'd have a chat to your local 454 marine engine rebuilder, I'm sure they will point you in the right direction, as my guy said this was a very common upgrade on these marine engines.
