Regal 1900 - BBQ Grill

Postby Jude20VT » Sat Aug 19, 2017 3:52 pm

We always wanted to graduate from cold sandwiches on the lake but thought a grill would be overkill for a small boat. Recently picked up a Colman Xcursion camping grill 50% off with a damaged portable stand. I like the low profile, dual burners, integrated grease traps, plus it matches our blue boot stripe. Removed the folding stand and corresponding brackets. To help save items from rolling off, added matching dock line rail around the side table perimeter. The grill locks into place with an adjustable Magma deck mount and stores in the engine bay (wo propane). Kabobs anyone!?!

Just be careful, your fuel vent outlet is near that grill.

Nice. Looks more functional than a Magma grill.

That looks great! How does it cook?
I bought a Kuuma and its terrible. Flare ups are unquestionably going to happen so I don't use it on the boat much.

Jude20VT, really nice setup. Let me ask this as someone who has never used a Grill on a boat. Does grease spatter and that fine greasy mist get on the gunwales and upholstery? Makes me think about what a mess the stove is when we grill a burger indoors on the stovetop griddle. Thanks.
Thanks,

Rob

Cooking a burger on a stove top with a pan/griddle is going to splatter because the grease has no where to go and stays in the hot pan. It then burns on the hot pan and sizzles all over. The boat grill is just a small version of a BBQ grill at home where the grease falls down through the grate. The place it may sizzle is from the grease shields below, but it is below the food and grate so not as much an issue and so hot it just burns rather than sizzles. Some grills are better designed than others too.
Now, my el cheapo tends to drip from the corners sometimes if the grease does not get caught in the trap. It will wipe right off if I get it right away otherwise a little wax cleans it up later.

I attach my Magma grill to my bow ladder and do my cooking over the water. I have since moved the grill so it is more over the ladder.
