Yearly maintenance items

Postby Kikaboo » Tue Aug 08, 2017 7:29 am

What are the list of items that must/should be done on a yearly or seasonally basis? I'm asking because I recently missed one of these (waste tank filter cartridge) and was wondering what else I may be missing.

Here are the yearly items I can think off off the top of my head,

Change engine oil
Change gear lube
Change generator impeller
Change anodes
Change waste tank filter cartridge

Any yearly/seasonal maint items for a windlass?

What else?

When you state "Change Anodes", make sure that includes the engine anodes and the generator anode(s) and not just the outdrive. The engine impeller also needs to be inspected/changed.

You replace yours each year? How about just inspect?
I was also told it's good to flip it upside a few times.
If gauge is in the green is it not still good?

hmmm I have not done this but sounds like a great idea. I have a few more months then will close out my 3rd season.
I have 4 year warranty so oil analysis at the end of this season could help detect any looming issues while I still have a year left in warranty.

Please don't forget the trailer. My father has a bassboat and just this past weekend he ran the wheel off the spindle due to lack of maintenance. We spent a day in the parking lot of a nearby business trying to find parts and make repairs. Luckily, no one was hurt when the wheel came off and it did not hit anything. He said that he had added grease through the grease fitting the last time he went to the lake. From the looks of the outside bearing, it was charred and appeared to be void of grease. The trailer had the grease fitting on the end of the spindle that, supposedly, shoots grease to both bearings. In this case, the front bearing did not appear to have grease.

Moral of the story - pull the hubs and inspect bearings and seals every couple of years to avoid this type of incident.

I would add fuel filters on engines and generator, and replace belts. I find the belts wear quite a bit in a year's time, and it's a relatively inexpensive replacement to just get new ones. Joystick operation seems to really wear on them. I would also say vacuum and clean the bilge to make sure there are no obstructions to clog the bilge pump.

In no particular order....

Pull O/D, check alignment, lube coupler, lube gimbal bearing, clean spark arrestors, pull prop and lube, lube shift and steering linkages, clean water tank, if you have it, replace IAC filter.

Hope this helps!

I verify my sump pump every other month. But for those of you that do not bother, yearly could be a good practice.

I take a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and pour it to all sinks that get to the sump pump. After 15 minutes or so I open the sink tabs and shower to rinse it off. Since I started with this my sump pump is always clean and functional.
