Waste System Maintenance

Postby Life is Good » Tue Mar 12, 2019 4:31 pm

How much should it cost and/or how many hours would it take to replace waste hoses on a Regal 3880 with 1 head Vaccuflush system? I got a quote with 40 hours of labor at $4,500 plus 700' foot of hose at $1,000.

The boat isn't 700 feet long, they just going to coil it up in the engine room? That seems really high for hours as well, however it doesn't surprise me. I know a few have done it here, even Rommer using PVC schedule 40, instead of flex for most of the runs. Its an access and contortionist game to redo the pipe. I am guessing your have 30 or so feet at the most for length, but could be off here as I don't know the specific runs that they would use on that boat. For $5500 I would expect a new system including the head, vacuum system and tank.
Thanks, Chris

I have replaced my hoses twice and the total job was 6 hours. This includes all hoses except the vent line which was too difficult to access.
150 feet should be enough.

Last time, I changed to pvc. Will never have to do again!

I changed mine the first time due to a pinhole, causing a vacuum leakm
Second time was due to hose permeation.

Can you get hose permeation on the white flexible PVC type pipe?....I know waste piping has come up here many times I just haven't been clear on the piping type that eventually stinks.....

I need to replace mine soon. I think they got an extra 0 in that quote but 70' sounds really close. That's a long run to go around from the toilet to the vacuflush pump. Then back to the tank, then the vent, and if you want to replace the pumpout hose. I would think like kellyg said around 150' to be safe.
The connections are really hard to get to. I installed a vent which did not come from the factory in 2002 and it wasn't easy. The vent hose where it connect to the tank is probably one of the hardest. Not sure if your year has an access hatch but mine does not have one on the forward side of the tank where the vent is connected.

I replaced all pump out hoses as well, especially since they run so close to the A/C unit. Once they go bad, the whole boat will smell.

There is no access to the tank vent line on my boat, and I never changed it.

Over the last 3 years had both vacu flush toilets (new vacuum pump(on fwd unit) , duck bills, motors (part of vacuum unit) , toilet ball valves, O rings, floor flange, flush shaft O rings on both units, etc.), repaired/replaced, $1240 total cost. None of the vent or feed hoses needed replacing! On our 4160 access to tanks/pumps was very accessible, could of done it myself but can't get in and out of the engine room anymore:(. I did install a inline activated carbon filter in myself as there wasn't any in when boat manufactured, on the hook fellow boaters complained about smell before installing vent filters! . The longest hose from our fwd. head to holding tank is about 30' but nothing wrong with it or the aft head line/vents, pump out lines. Have to agree with seven that 700' is a typo?

$1000/70 ft doesn't make sense either, so I am inclined to believe its 700 feet. The high quality Trident hose is a bit over $2.50/ft'ish. I am guessing the cheap hose would work out to the $1000/700 or about $1.43 ft. Can't be $14.30/ft so...
Thanks, Chris

Agree, the last thing you want to skimp on is the quality of the parts (hose in this case) as the labor is probably what will cost the most $ and quality parts will most likely last a longer time than something "cheaper"!. So, 70' of the good hose would cost $175, the labor would be the biggie! Use the "good stuff"!
