Faux Teak by the sheet or custom work-discount for our forum

Postby aviator1 » Tue Apr 25, 2017 7:35 pm

There is a supplier that has agreed to give us a discount on buying either custom faux teak from him or you can buy it by the sheet.
If you are interested let me know and I can connect you with him.
The sheet price is $185 and it measures 47" by 97". you can cut it with scissors yourself or provide him with your dimensions and they will do the cutting for you.
Comes with a self adhesive 3M backing.
Some of us on here have purchased from him in the past and I wanted us to have some discount as a group.

Interesting, but the photo you show seems to be custom made with lines that follow a contour. Maybe he has two prices?

Is he custom making pieces from templates at that price? Or is it only a raw roll of material, cut to length?

Does he have a teak and holly color combo or only black lines?

I'm considering something for my swim platform.

I would be interested in getting more info on this...

Do we supply a template? Are the sides finished off like the custom piece in the photos above or will the ends just terminate abruptly wherever we cut it?

If you have a drawing, he will typically take your drawing and convert it for your review...once you approve, he will provide a quote.
You can either buy it by the sheet or send in whatever creative design you have in mind.
I will post my 1900 interior and deck soon!

Great! Looking forward to seeing how yours turned out!

I'm wondering what it would run to cover the swim platform / exterior deck for my 2665. I've got the old carpet that needs to be replaced so I'm thinking a template would be easy to craft.

Still have your contact for this?

I'd like to do my swim platform and would be interested in some prices. If it looks good, might do the cockpit with it also.

If I buy it by the sheet the edges won't look clean and finished. If I template it out will the finished product be like the photos with the borders cleaned up?

Did you use Aviator's discount vendor?

How did you do the design? Template?

Thanks!

No I used the local rep and boat show discount. The SeaDek rep came out to the boat and digitized all the pieces with a scanner on a tripod. The rep then had a program to layout the lines/panels.

Got it... my guess is significantly more expensive than the discount that was discussed in the forums but less risk for a quality job also.

Oh for sure, The sheets are a single layer one color. What I'm paying for is two layers laminated, grooved and then cut out by C&C machine to the exact size with install.

My boat 3760 was just under 5k without the swim platform.

I did the swim platform and steps to the bow using aqua marine for just under $500 (aquamarinedeck.com). They have templates already made for a large number of boats and swim platforms. But in my case they did not have it for a 2018. So they sent me a sheet of film that I used to trace the areas I wanted covered. I received the cut pieces and installed them myself - they come with the pressure sensitive adhesive already applied. Easy to do - good soap & water cleaning, then a clean with acetone, peal off the backer and apply. I used a roller like you would use to fabricate laminate counter tops to get a real good bond. And put some heavy weights on the tight corners. I had one minor issue (my fault, not theirs) and they were very responsive. Sent me some adhesive for free to fix.

Irish86 - Looks Great!

My question is, if you get bird droppings on this material, can you pressure wash off or scrub without damaging?

Yes - I've gotten "bird bombed" and just had it get dirty and it cleans up nicely
