We had an issue over the weekend at our lake as well. There wasn't anyone injured or killed on this one. The boat, $2.4M, was a total loss.
http://tiny.cc/AYh14 He stores his boat just a few down from mine, which he wedges into a slip. A newer Sundancer 55 burned up, they guess an electrical fire started at the helm. Which if you look at a new SD55 you will see there was quite a bit of infrastructure on the hardtop and full windshield, which is all gone now. Not sure how bad inside is but at least it didn't burn through the fuel tanks otherwise I believe it would have sunk quite fast. After the fire was out it was floated over to a marina and taken out of the water.
Always bad to have a boat fire, but could have been allot worse as he was getting ready to have a big tie up in our "party cove" with a bunch of other boats. The news makes it sound so much better that "3 had to jump into the water" when in reality, they lowered the swim platform down and drove the jet ski off away from the boat.
