Volvo easy connect

Postby xixp » Wed Feb 14, 2018 11:59 am

Hi Guys,

Has anybody got any info about this interface?

http://www.volvopenta.us/marineleisure/ ... tions.html

It seems it would replace the NMEA2000 interface i used to link my MFD to the engines.
Another reason to visit Miami Boat show this week end...

OK, I love tech... I want one! :)

I wonder if it can be added to my MEFI-4B ECM? The web page you list is a little vague on which specific engines can be supported.

I did find this additional info:
http://www.volspec.co.uk/pdfs/easy-conn ... erface.pdf

So the big question is what exactly are these two parts and what is the minimum ECM version compatibility:

23194833 Interface kit, non-EVC gasoline MY 2006 and later
3883170 Adapter cable, non-EVC gasoline MY2006

It VP's proprietary wireless interface. It won't be replacing N2K for sure. It's just their wireless gateway, now that replaced the N2K gateway that they had. The part number for EVC is the only that will plug into the EVC hub or with Y cable, and then they have the part for the non-EVC 2006 and newer gas engine.

The last two part numbers would need to be purchased together for a NON-EVC 2006 and newer gas engine only.
Thanks, Chris

So it will be as easy as to swap my existing nmea 2000 volvo interface for the new one with wireless connectivity..?
Im interested in the capability of recording trouble codes or i wonder if it will provide more info than my EVC Displays. Last week i got a “check engine “ message although the engines were running great ; my dealer told me that they had to connect the computer to dig in what trigger that message. I hope if this interface will provide more granularity in cases like that.

Will this connect with Volvo Glass Cockpit or would it be what you see with the active captain app?

I'd like to know specifically which ECMs this will work with, if anyone has any more info on this, please share it.

I did find the price of one cable:

3883170 $100

Yes , this interface allows connection to the MFD (includes nmea 2000 interface) and wireless connectivity to have the same info in your phone.

In Volvo, 2006 MY would have been the change over to EGC based engines and away from the MEFI based engines. So if you have an MEFI based engine it won't work, it would need the EGC based computer in it. Then on top of the EGC based engines they added EVC with the digital controls. Their existing N2K gateway would plug into EVC based engines only, so it appears now that at least they are going back a few more years to pickup a few more engines to interface into with adapters on the wireless interface.
Thanks, Chris

Chris,

Thanks for this. It's not obvious looking at the data I could find online, as it seems I see some 2006 engines with MEFI, but it could just be an error in my searching or interpreting the parts lists.

That's why I asked for a confirmation on what ECM this new option would work with. I guess Volvo knows and says all 2006 engines have the proper ECM.

Seems I'm always a year behind. I"ll go tback to looking at some of the other aftermarket parts, the price is slowly coming down on the J1939 to NEMA 2K gateways. Right now it looks like I'm at about a minimum of $500-$600 to add two gateways and a NEMA 2K backbone to my boat. I"m just trying to determine if it's worth the $500 to me to add some engine monitoring to my MFD.
