Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall Issues

Postby Chris_in_Texas » Sun Nov 19, 2017 1:35 pm

So just an FYI to anyone with a PWC, they (Kidde) no longer manufacture the PWC push button unit. They are replacing them with Mariner 5 units for the recall, which are larger diameter, shorter in length and have a metal handle and large plastic pressure gauge on them. This makes the molded in areas for the extinguishers not work anymore, so not really sure what to do with them. You can't just set them into the storage bin as they use a plastic gauge on them that could break off and with 100 PSI you would have a big mess. Yet alone the pin is easy to remove now. Just a mess now. :o
Thanks, Chris

Yep I have two. Hopefully SeaDoo will have a better replacement or a replacement storage bin to accommodate the Kidda replacement in the near future.

Yes I have a request out to BRP to see what they are going to do. They designed the compartment with this specific fire extinguisher only to fit it, which it doensn't now. I am sure they will say tuff luck, but now that all their customers will have the same issue I am sure that they are going to have to do something. You just can't leave it roll around in there and if you were to "mount" it the thin plastic holder would break with the force of jumping in these units going 60+ MPH. ;)
Thanks, Chris

Well, besides my SeaDoo i have a Yamaha Stand up and in that ski the fire extingisher compartment is just a tube located on the hood so no way of placing anything different to the original Kidde...

Thanks, Chris

More than likely the dealer may already have something available. The compartment size and shape probably hasn't changed except for the internal molding that holds the new extinguisher.

They should think twice and do something.

I have my replacements. They are shorter and larger in diameter but they still fit in the original location. The rubber retainer strap should be notched a bit to make access easier.
