Regal Warranty-Brunswick Product Protection

Postby aviator1 » Wed Sep 20, 2017 4:09 pm

Not sure if I am missing something but I was a little caught off guard when a warranty package arrived for my 5 year warranty and its thru Brunswick Marine.
There is a deductible now and the list of things that are not covered was surprising to say the least, engine block, heads, intake manifold etc.
How does regal warranty fit into this picture? or is this Regal's warranty thru someone else?
How does Volvo's warranty fit into this picture?
I wanted to check with you guys to see if you are aware before I ping my dealer/regal on an answer.

That's weird. I'm not aware of any Brunswick/Regal connection except that Regal offers Mercruiser engines reluctantly because of their competition with Searay.
I wonder if you received that by mistake??

Your engine and outdrive should have a 5 year warranty from Volvo. The rest of the boat would be under the 5 year warranty that Regal advertises. They don't make it sound like a third party extended warranty for their 5 year warranty. I would talk to your dealer or call Regal HQ.

My 2014 has one of these as well, but I also have Mercruiser. I think this is how they offered the 5 year warranty at that time, but would be surprised they are still doing that now with how much they have advertised it. Brunswick Product Protection does act as a separate company, so it's possible the coverage could be offered through them regardless of power package.

VP is a 2+3 warranty. The factory covers the 1st two years and then another company (nomrally) FPC covers the next three with many limitations. As for the boat warranty I am not sure on that. But yes seems strange to use Brunswick as that is a major competitor to them when using VP engines. That would be like Ford doing the warranty for Chevy.. ;)
Thanks, Chris

Interesting, I have wondered for several years why most Regal's have VP propulsion systems? Cant remember the last post on the ROF with the owner indicating he had a Mercruiser propulsion system? I was about to post a question as to why most, if not all, Regals are powered by VP ? Has to be a $ kick back to Regal for every vessel they build with a VP propulsion system? Regarding the warranty going thru Brunswick's dealership system have to wonder if they bought Regal or have a major ownership in Regal? We have 5 Regal's on our dock and all powered by VP engines (OK, one is a Cummins Diesel)

I think the biggest factor is who owns Mercury, which is Brunswick Marine. And Brunswick Marine also owns Bayliner and Sea Ray (among others), and Sea Ray is a prime competitor to Regal. Also, it seems Regal leverages their buying power with VP to get better overall pricing. That's my guess anyway, especially after doing the factory tour and seeing hundreds of crated VP engines lined up there waiting for installation. I asked when I was there and the answer is 90% of production uses VP propulsion. Brunswick Product Protection is a subsidiary of Brunswick Marine, and operates separately as a marine warranty service. So it is definitely possible to have them cover a VP propulsion system. It likely all comes down to price on who Regal chooses!

I called Regal and they left me just as confused as ever.
So I have this 5 year warranty that covers this and that, than I have a one year warranty from Regal that covers everything, than I have another warranty from Volvo that covers 2+3 years.
So I am struggling to understand where this Brunswick Marine warranty fits into the picture

Look on VP site for the Warranty guide, its in PDF format. That is what they are going to cover for their 2+3 warranty, first two everything is covered, then the extended +3 kicks in and covers less parts, but for sure would cover all the main parts, block, heads etc. For the boat, the 1st year for everything is directly from Regal. The remaining 4 years, my guess is the Brunswick protection plan which only covers limited parts. I would assume why the protection plan doesn't include the engine parts, as those are covered by the +3 from VP. The +3 and +4 riders are very much like a 3rd party extended warranty for your car. Most likely any repairs will require pre-authorization to get fixed, and they will cover only the items listed and exclude everything else. If its not listed in covered parts, its excluded and not covered.

It for sure is a gray area with I am sure a 3pt font with an asterisk next to it. ;)
Thanks, Chris

Too confusing Chris, I think the best is to wait until I need the warranty and see which of the three warranties that came with this thing will kick in.
I have complete trust in Regal, that they will do the right thing for me...so lets hope I dont need warranty work, but if I do...will sort it out.

It shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

For 5 years anything engine and drive related would be covered by the Volvo warranty according to their warranty guide.
During the first year anything on the boat non engine related is covered by Regal.
For years 2-5 Brunswick Marine covers all the stuff listed on their warranty brochure.

As we still ahve a copy of our 2001 4160 warranty it lists for inboards that the gear (a Hurth/ZF manufactured in Italy!) is only covered by Hurth/ZF, not regal or VP? I have to wonder when car manufactures will start indicating that the starter is covered by XX company, the injectors are covered by yy company, the batterys by qq company, the ECU by gh, company, etc.? It's too bad that when Regal sell you a new vessel that their warranty would cover everything for 2/3/4 years or whatever! Too much of this pass the buck to sub suppliers crap in the marine industry, especially for vessels $300k plus!
