Post At THT - BS?

Postby Muddy Blues » Tue Jan 29, 2019 9:52 pm

I came across this thread over at The Hull Truth. My spidey senses say "BS". In looking at the photos, the wood used appears to be scraps pieces from a 1970 basement finishing project (one piece looks like faux wood panelling). Also, there is no way Regal would allow screws to poke through like that. The internals of the two Regals I have owned don't look anything like what is in these pics. Lastly, the poster has posted 3 times - all to bash his Regal. Take an look and let us know what you think.

Ya, typical comments from folks that know what is quality craftsmanship and those that dont. The refered OP post is from july 2017! Hopefully he had it corrected while still under warranty and a 5 year or so extension on the original warranty pertaining to any rot, wood failure etc.? Have to love those type of forums that all people do is complain. Either get it fixed under warranty and a warranty extension or stop paying the monthly loan payments and tell the bank why you are stopping payments. They may have some pull with Regal? I do, although, agree bare wood anywhere on a boat is not good marine boat building practice, inland small boat or ocean going large vessel!
Have to wonder if Lake Geneva hit the -25F mark today or tomorrow? I grew up in Kenosha and after 38 years in Wi the coldest i can remember was -21F! Thats back in the mid / late 70's where if you had a vehicle parked outside you had to have a 120 VAC engine oil sump heater plugged in ( there weren't any 0W-5W oils back then :) Wonder why the OP hasnt joined the ROF forum?
PS: ATL weather for the big game = 59 Sat. 60 Sun, 62 Mon, and then forcasted for 68 next Thursday! Part of the reason that Lake Lanier never freezes :)

gf24 - my point is that I don't think those pictures were from a Regal. The wood looks like scraps you might find in your garage. One piece looks like panel siding. Thus, I am calling BS on the OP.

Consider that the OP on that forum only posted 3X! Have to love the guy with 18k + posts saying that a Regal is a "entry level boat" :) After owning 12X vessels in 40 years I am hoping I am no longer a beginner? Have to just ignore these amateur entry level boat owners on that site but cant deny his pictures if that was actually his new 2017 Regal ? I am sure Regal took care of him two years ago? haven't seen any new posts since then? Still have to wonder why this guy didn't post his problem/pictures on the ROF?

I wouldn't be so quick to discard that type of workmanship by Regal. I have a 3780/3880/4080, that does have exposed wood like that in my engine room, in particular, the shelf where the generator is installed.
As for the other pieces of wood, I have pieces similar to that under the galley stove. While not exposed, when I needed to remove the stove, the support brackets are thin pieces of wood stapled, exactly as in the photo.

I purchased my boat new in 2001 and have been through the entire boat. There are numerous surprises around every corner turned!

I have never experienced a structural failure of any part of my boat, so I am figuring there was no harm in Regals building practices.

Those could very well be pics of a Regal. Or any boat for that matter!
Without knowing exactly what those pictures pertain to it's hard to judge. You take a close enough picture of anything and it can look bad.
I could have easily taken pics that looked like those on my 2006 Formula, or my 2004 Fourwinns. Both boats had a ton of bare wood that could be seen upon inspection. I actually never noticed anything like that on my 2013 28 express, but again, if I took some random really close up pics, they would look bad.

I don't believe those pictures have anything to do with the boats structural elements.

With that being said, I hope they are taking better care building my new 2019 33 express!!!!

Why not send those pictures to Regal and ask if your new 33 Express under construction will have those types of bare wood problems? Or , spend a few dollars and go to FL to check on it? Might be a nice vacation from the cold?

We are going to Florida in march. but that would be too late. Regal just sent me pics of the boat just about finished and it is due to ship very soon.
Honestly, I'm not concerned about it.

Question, did you join the Regal - Club 32 facebook group yet? That's a specific group for 32/33 owners.

Sounds great! Hope u enjoy it! Dont forget to do a sea trial (commissioning) before accepting the ownership of the vessel. Once you own it, you own it.

MB, you never commented on the possible -24F temps last week? I have quite a few college buddies in your area and one said -28F at his house. He lives on Lake Beulah in East Troy, I assume you know where that is? Beautiful lake, you can see the bottom when out in the deepest part of the lake!
