New 2 me 3560

Postby Underwater254 » Sat Jan 20, 2018 9:09 pm

Seller just accepted my offer on 2006 3560 with 8.1 Volvo inboard v-drives. Pending survey and sea trial. Pics to come soon hopefully. Any advice on some common issues to look for. Been reading a ton of posts as I am leaving the sea ray family to upgrade to regal. Excited

If you have a good surveyor he should find any problems! Hopefully you are having both a value and sea trial survey including a ECU fault code readout. Our surveyor removed the spark plugs and did compression pressure testing on each cylinder, read out the % throttle position vs. time at those conditions, the vessel was dry docked to check the hull moisture, bottom paint condition, blistering, checked the prop shaft run out, and condition of the propellers. Really great guy, total cost including the pull out was about $700, well worth the money for a vessel costing > $100k!
Let us know what you find out!
Thanks

Congratulations, I have a 2006 - 3860 with Volvo Penta 8.1 / v-drives. Let me know the model number of your engines and if they are the same I have a ton of electronic manuals, parts listings and winterization process documentation that I would be happy to share with you. Welcome to the Regal family!
Kindest regards, Jeff

Great Offer! Just have to wonder where the OP is docked, FL or Maine as to whether he needs info on winterizing? We have twin VP's 8.1's and so far they are doing great at 900+ hours on fresh water! After 4 years on the lake we are only able to get about 22 knots at WOT so have to wonder if we need a hull pressure wash and/or new bottom paint?
So often we have to guess about important info from a new poster to try to respond in a accurate/informative way, just wanted to throw that in, sorry.

I would say it is probably time for a bottom cleaning and then you can look at the bottom paint. It doesn’t take much growth go cause a lot of drag. Uses a lot of extra fuel too.

Agree, thanks!
I did some fuel consumption calculations when purchasing the vessel and determined that our 2X 425 HP VP's at WOT can consume about 50 gal. /hr.! In general, the speed of the vessel within reason doesnt have much to do with the fuel consumption especially if the WOT RPM's are only a few hundred down from clean bottom readings. I think it is time to get it hauled out, pressure wash the hull, and then maybe new bottom paint!

Jeff, I would really appreciate any help I can get. I will be tackling most little projects myself. Boat just had new risers and manifolds, new water pumps, fresh tune ups with fluids and all filters. I will get you serial numbers next week. Thanks

Hi Underwater254 - sorry; don't know your actual name :)

Just send me a PM with an email address and I will send you some of my documentation. I have a fairly evolved, yet customized winterizing document but if your engines are they same it should help you out. I can hardly wait for Spring and to get my boat back in the water.
Kindest regards, Jeff
