Hello,

We are planning on going over to Bimini or another island in spring 2009. Any others considering this? We are in the planning stage right now. Leaving out of south Florida.

Don't know if you've done this trip before but we did it this year with the "bimini fling" group associated with the Bahama's government and didn't have much luck. The seas going over were horrible(Mid June) and the lead boat left us. Very unprofessional. We were lucky to make it... If I had to do it over again, I would go by ourselves, or with friends, and wait until good seas. Don't bother with the "fling" or even attempting it in seas > 2ft unless you have a 40ft+ boat.

Yeah it would be our first. The plan was to go with a group. A friend of mine has done it twice. He had the same problem. Some boats were not in the best machanical condition which then of course becomes your problem. If we could round up maybe 3 or 4 would be good. If the the group gets to big it'll turn into a headache possibly. (been there before)

Went with MarineMax to Green Turtle last June (08) and hit the same seas on the return outside Port Lacaya. Has anyone spoken to Boattree Club about plans 09? I went to Bimini in 06 and wasn't really impressed. Rented a golfcart and after a couple end to end trips, done. June 09 would be out (family reunion).

Stay in touch

Scott

March and April are usually the windiest months with high sea conditions, Sundance marine has the bimini bash at the end of june which went on last year. We left at the end of June and the seas were so flat they looked like a mirror, we made the trip in an hour and a half on our 3560. They also bring along a mechanic and most parts that may fail.(they replaced my generator impeller at the dock in bimini). Last year there were 70 boats that went. Sundance charges about $175 per person this included 8 drink tickets, dockage for 3 days, two dinners, two breakfasts, and a party at Honeymoon Harbor. Every one had a great time. I recommend the Sundance Bimini Bash heartily.
